Proofreading (also known as the galley edit) is the final stage in the editing process. This is a word-level edit. This is the final time an editor will review a manuscript before it goes to print. All of the major issues will have been ironed out during the developmental and copy edits. During this stage, the editor will review the manuscript from start to finish, ensuring no errors have been missed. The editor will quality-check not only the writing but also the final formatting.
